Dreams
We all have dreams during sleep. Dreams are of different types. Generally we see in our dreams the places or persons we have seen or heard of. But the dream I am talking about is of a different type.
It was in September 1967, when my wife delivered her first child. She was away to my parents place for delivery. I was on my duty place. I used to read a few pages from some book before switching off light for sleep. In the usual way, I put the book aside and put off the light. Immediately I fell asleep.
I had a dream. I was travelling in a bus. In the way, the bus had a halt. I got down the bus to ease myself. When I returned, I found my baggage missing from my seat. I enquired from a passenger sitting at the adjoining seat about my luggage. He told me that a saint who just got down the bus had taken away my luggage. I came down the bus and saw the saint with a trishul in his hand and my luggage under his arms walking along a circular wall. I stood near the wall waiting for the saint to arrive near. When he came near me, I said” mahatma ji, this luggage belongs to me.’
He stopped, looked at me, forwarded the luggage towards me and said,” take it, if it is yours.”
Taking my luggage back, I returned to my seat. I reached my home, where my elder brother was waiting for me. I was holding a bag inscribed with the words”DANDI SWAMI” in Hindi.
“Where did you find this bag of Dandi Swami from?” asked my brother. I told him the incident and said the bag is mine, but the saint had written this on it.
My brother told me that ‘Dandi Swami’ was a great saint. I didn’t agree saying a great saint would not have taken my luggage away.
During the same night next part of the dream started. I was in a big temple. Many persons had gathered there. Perhaps it was some function. Swami Ji was sitting on a bench and people were coming to him in line for darshan and Prasad. I was also standing in line. When I approached the saint, he gave me a bowl of warm water to drink, which I drank. He poured some more water and I drank it too. Again he put some more water and said,” If you take all this water , you will be relieved of all troubles.” I took some water and spilled down the rest.
Now I was out of the line and reached a Shiva temple to pay obeisance. I visited all portions of the temple and came out. There I saw a letter box temple installed outside the temple. I posted the letter I had kept in my post for the purpose.
Just then I woke up. It was 6:00 AM. I got up from my bed.
When I got up, I began to think of the dream. I had never heard about Dandi Swami. On reaching my office, I enquired from my colleagues if they had ever heard about ‘Dandi Swami’, but every one answered in the negative. I was perplexed. How the name Dandi Swami came in my dream. I thought over it again and again, I continue to enquire about Dandi Swami. Whenever I met a new friend or relative, I narrated the dream and enquired if they had ever heard about some saint by that name. I could find no answer.
A year passed. In December 1967, a cousin of mine who lived at Ludhiana came to meet us. I narrated the dream to her. She heard me with patience and the said; “Dandi Swami” belongs to Ludhiana. But now he is not alive. A temple has been constructed and his ‘Idol‘has been installed in the temple.”
“Is the temple at the corner of turn of the road?” I asked.
“Yes!”
“Has the temple two gates?”
“Yes!”
“Is there a well near one of the gates?”
“Yes!”
“Is there a letter box outside the temple?”
“Yes!”
Then I narrated the other descriptions of the temple and its surroundings as seen in my dream which she confirmed to be true. I decided to see the temple. I came to Ludhiana with my cousin and reached the Dandi Swami Mandir. I was astonished to see that whatever I had seen in my dream was there.
Time passed. My younger sister was married off in Ludhiana. My elder son came to Ludhiana on her persuasion. He joined a private business concern where he served for three years. In 1993 he opened a chemist shop in Ludhiana. Two younger brothers joined him afterwards and on my retirement from govt service, we also came to Ludhiana to stay with them.

Hi RCsood....
Dreams can be interpreted in so many ways. But I guess yours was just a harbinger of what was about to happen. Maybe you were led to Ludhiana, via your dream:-}
